What is Arm Lift Surgery?
Due to factors such as age, genetics, excessive weight gain and loss, sagging, size and deformities may occur in the arms as a result of decreased skin elasticity and an increase or decrease in subcutaneous adipose tissue. These deformations, which cause the person to look old and unhealthy, can be corrected by arm lift surgery. With arm lift, the person can have more taut and younger looking arms.
Why Do Arms Drape?
Processes that cause rapid weight loss such as heavy diets and stomach reduction will cause sagging in the arms as well as in the whole body. In addition, sagging in the arms may occur due to environmental and hereditary reasons such as aging and overexposure to sunlight.
This situation not only creates an aesthetically pleasing image, but also negatively affects the psychology of the person.
Before Surgery
As in all surgeries, a detailed doctor examination should be made beforehand and all details should be explained to the patient about the surgery.
In addition, the patient should inform the physician about all the conditions such as the disease he has, the medicine he uses, etc.
In arm lift surgery, a 6-hour fasting period is required before the surgery, as in preparing for all surgeries that require general anesthesia.
In order to minimize the risk of bleeding, patients who use blood thinners etc. before the operation should take a break from these drugs under the control of a doctor.
How is Arm Lift Surgery Performed?
Arm lift surgery, which is applied in arm sagging, is usually performed under general anesthesia and sometimes under local anesthesia. It takes between 1-3 hours on average.
Excess and sagging skin and subcutaneous fat tissue are removed by making incisions extending from the inner parts of the arms to the armpits. Scars are usually seen in the area close to the armpit and on the inside of the arm, which are the least visible places for the arms when viewed from the outside.
In very severe sagging and lubrication, the patient may stay in the hospital for one day.
In cases where the skin quality is good and there is no sagging, that is, only in cases where fat accumulation is high, liposuction is sufficient. However, if there is skin sagging with excess fat tissue, stretching surgery is absolutely necessary.
After Surgery
Drains can be placed in this area to prevent postoperative bleeding and fluid accumulation. These are withdrawn after 2-3 days at the most. It is recommended to keep the arms elevated, especially in the first days after the surgery.
A pressure bandage is applied to reduce swelling, edema and bleeding that may occur in the operation area. Usually, there are no stitches to be taken.
There is no or almost no pain in the postoperative period. If there is pain, painkillers will suffice. Return to normal life is within a few days.
In the first few weeks, there is a comfortable post-op period, except for avoiding heavy exercises that use the arms.
Post-Operative Scars
In all surgical operations, some scars remain in the area where the surgery was performed. These scars fade over time and become close to the skin color and are not very disturbing. In addition, these traces are on the parts of the body that can be hidden. In arm lift surgeries, these scars are also left on the inner arm.
Which Procedures Can Be Combined With Arm Lift Surgery?
Arm lift surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other body lift operations. For example tummy tuck, leg lift, face lift etc. In addition, it can be combined with breast aesthetics.
If there is an excess of fat in arm lift aesthetics, liposuction can also be added to this process. In this way, both the subcutaneous adipose tissue is thinned more and more skin can be removed.
