Eyelid Surgery
The operations performed to correct the changes caused by skin aging around the eyes are called eyelid aesthetics or blepharoplasty.
As we age, skin tension decreases, relaxes and lengthens, the muscles under the skin weaken, and especially with the effect of sun rays on the skin, spots called pigmentation occur. Since the skin around our eyes is thinner and more sensitive than other parts of the body, the effects of aging are primarily observed around the eyes.
Different surgical interventions can be performed on the lower and upper eyelids to correct these problems observed in both the upper and lower eyelids.
The most common problem observed in the upper eyelids as age progresses is excess skin. The thinning, elongation and sagging of the skin primarily cause a tired and sad expression, while the progression of the problem over time can negatively affect vision.

It is also possible to correct the laxity of the lower eyelid during this surgery, which provides a very effective rejuvenation around the eye, or to give a different appearance to the eye by changing the location of the external angle of the eye.
In some patients, only upper or lower eyelid surgery is planned, while in a significant part of the patients, both the upper and lower eyelids are intervened at the same time, and at the same time, a complete eye contour rejuvenation can be achieved by adding eyebrow lifting procedures to the surgery in patients with droopy eyebrows.
How is Eyelid Aesthetics Performed?
Although it is possible to perform the procedure under local anesthesia or a sedative application called sedation in patients who will only be operated on the upper eyelids, it is usually general anesthesia as lower eyelid surgery or operations such as eyebrow lifting, face lift, fat injection are also performed in most patients at the same time. is preferred.
Although the incisions for the upper eyelids are always made on the skin, it is possible to perform the lower eyelid surgery from the inside of the eyelid (transconjunctival) without an external incision in patients who do not have significant eyelid loosening and who have mild bagging.
All patients who are planned for eyelid aesthetics should be evaluated in detail by an ophthalmologist in terms of eyelid and tear functions, as well as vision, before surgery.
